Mexico, written at Dads house in Port Macquarie, was one of the first songs I wrote where I played it all day. I couldn't stop, I had to keep playing it over and over again. I still love to play it. It is a song about hanging out with a Mexican English teacher on the beach one afternoon when I was travelling. We talked about all sorts of issues over a bottle of tequilla, lemon and salt in the setting sun.

Lyrics

Mexico - Tim Stokes

I shot a man down in Mexico
He was 6ft tall and he was looking to go
To the other side, it took me to show
I shot him down yeah and here’s how that story goes
And I sang

All right, all right
That’s all right with me!

Stood on the beach yeah, looking mighty mean
In his hand more tequila than I’ve ever seen
Through his twitching eyes that were slightly obscene
He looked at me thinking I was pretty green
And I sang

Came up to me yeah and here’s what he said
“Boy this life, well it’s all in your head
Just make sure your will can be read
By the time the night’s through, one of us will be dead!”
I said

Staring at each other, as the sun went down
Shot after shot that tequila went on down
Then his eyes crossed just before he hit the ground
Yeah well, I stood up and I blew that one horse town,
Singing

I shot a man down in Mexico
He was 6ft tall and he was looking to go
To the other side and it took me to show
I shot him down yeah and here’s how that story goes
And I sang
